Flower Power!

Hi all

Just an update- our wonderful team who looked after the children in the first week of distance learning have been making sure our plants are well watered.  Let’s hope the strange weather this weekend hasn’t affected them too much!

Events Postponed Until Further Notice

Due to government advice  surrounding the coronavirus, our upcoming ‘Special Women Stay and Play’ on Thursday 19th March 2020 at 1:30pm is cancelled and will be rearranged at a later date.

Our Spring Sing concert on 1st April 2020 will also be postponed until further notice.

Thank you

Early Reading and Writing Workshops

A massive thank you to all parents and carers who came to support the development of their child’s early reading and writing.  As always, it is really heartwarming to see so many faces in our sessions and it makes the preparation work really worth it!  We love knowing that the teamwork between us has helped our children to achieve their goals and really be the very best that they can be.  Our turnout is always amazing!

We also understand that we have many working parents who are unable to make the workshops – I am happy to email you the presentation or go through it with you at a convenient time for both of us if you would like additional support.

Workshops will always take place (where possible) at 8:45am and 5pm to enable you to attend either of the sessions.

Parents have requested that we hold the Read Write Inc Phonics workshop again, especially now as we are moving into the harder phase of phonics- writing with the sounds we know! Please watch out for a date for this session in the summer term after the Easter break.

At the workshops, many of you completed a feedback form.  It was pleasing to see that your confidence in supporting your child with reading and writing moved from a 1/4 to a 4/4 for some of you! No question is a silly question and we are here to help both you and your child so please ask away!

Kind regards,

Mrs Toms

Jack and the Beanstalk & All Things Growing!

We have been busy growers! We planted our beans in cotton wool inside a sandwich bag and watered them.  We placed them on the window in the sunlight and watched them shoot and grow roots!

Now they are getting taller and we are starting to transfer them into plant pots with nourishing compost.

We are looking after our planting area by not touching the plants or knocking the pots over.  Please help us with this as you enter and exit the Reception garden on entry to school.

Thank you!

Our trip to Upminster Station!

Hi all!

We have just returned from our first real trip away from the local area! The children were so incredibly well behaved and we are very proud of them.

We answered questions about the platforms, signs, people who help us and the different types of trains we saw.  We met a wonderful station attendant called Asse at Elm Park who made sure we got on the train safely.  The train driver of the c2c train waved at us too!

Well done everyone and thank you again to all our parent helpers- we couldn’t have done it without you!

Here are some photos of our trip.

Computing- Pretty Pictures!

Our Computing topic for this half term and into Spring 2 is ‘Pretty Pictures’.  We have been learning to use the functions of the camera app on the iPads.

We learned to zoom, focus and lighten/darken the screen. We chose a favourite toy to take a photograph of and tried to pose them in an interesting way.  We focused in on their faces so that the picture wasn’t blurred and was of high quality.

Some child laid down flat on the floor to get a better angle of their toy while others re-positioned hair and arms to get that perfect pose!

I think you’ll agree that our photographs are of really high quality- some of them are fit for a magazine or comic strip!

Superheroes Unite!

You all looked fantastic in your dressing up clothes! We had a mixture of fictional superheroes with amazing superpowers (ice blast, flight, super speed etc) and real life people who help us (police officers, doctors etc).

Here is a picture of our heroes united!

Firework Art

Here is the completed firework art for Chinese New Year!  We placed large black paper on the floor and flicked paint from paintbrushes and toothbrushes onto it!  Each group added their special section to make this beautiful collaborative piece.

Well done everyone!
