A special visitor in Year 1

As part of a treat for Children in Need, Year 1 had a very special visitor on Friday. Miss Morris’ dog Bella came to school and spent some time in Year 1. The children took it in turns to throw the ball for Bella who was very happy to bring it straight back for the next child. Everyone who wanted to, got to stroke Bella too.

We are not sure who enjoyed it more, Bella or the children.

Mystery on a Monday morning!

On Monday morning, Year 1 were surprised to see toys where they shouldn’t be! We had to go and investigate! We saw animals reading books, a teddy bear making a list for a part, a power ranger playing the xylophone, another teddy baking a cake and much much more! Year 1 have then been busy writing a story about what the toys have been up to during the half term.

Jar of good choices!

Both classes have reached their first treat from their Jar of good choices! Since joining year 1, they have worked as a team and gained lots of pebbles to finally get their treat of having extra playtime!

We just wanted to say a big well done to the classes and hope you reach the second treat very soon!

Making Jam Sandwiches!

With their new book being ‘ Pass the Jam Jim’ children have had the experience of creating their very own jam sandwiches!  This was then followed on by writing instructions using time connectives and adjectives! With a bit of help, I’m sure they can start making their own sandwiches at home!

Dress as a dog day!

Hi all,

What a day we have had in year1! Dress as a dog day as been so much fun! The children have had a wonderful day filled with dog related activities. Thank you to you all for the effort that went into the children’s lovely costumes and for your donations for the guide dogs. The highlight of the day was our visit Brain from guide dogs trust and his dog Dolly. We also had a visit from a lady named Janet who is blind with her guide dog Maple. The children listened beautifully and asked some really interesting questions. Our visitors even commented on how well behaved they were! Have a look below at some of the pictures from the day.

We will be in touch soon with more on the exciting things we are learning in Year1

Year 1 team

Our sense of sight investigation!

Year 1 discussed the sense of sight today and how important it is. We had lot’s of fun experimenting with blindfolds to see how difficult simple things would be without our sense of sight. The children were very sensible and could explain why they felt their sense of sight was so important. Here are some photos of our activity.

We will keep you up to date with our future fun learning!

Lima’s Red Hot Chilli Pepper!

Children have been reading Lima’s Red Hot Chilli Pepper, where fireworks flew out of her mouth as she found the chilli too spicy. Her family tried to help cool her mouth down by giving her different foods and in the end she found that milk was the only thing that was going to help her.

During our Literacy lesson, children enjoyed trying different foods such as samosas, spaghetti, coconut, jelly and ice cream and then writing about them.

I wonder what our next book will be?

Welcome to Year One!

Hello!

Year one have had an amazing first day! They have all settled in beautifully and have been busy learning already. Have a look through the pictures below to see the wonderful chalk drawings of their bodies; the children loved creating these.

Just a few things to note. The reading records and diaries will be sent home on Friday alongside their red homework books. You will notice there are key words and phonic sounds in the diaries for your children to learn. We will be teaching these in class but please practise at home with your children too.

A letter went out today regarding PE. Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday so on these days can your children come into school in their PE kits which they will stay in all day.

We will update you with any further events or notices. Please do not hesitate to ask us any questions in the meantime.

Thank you
