Viking food and drink

Vikings ate dried fruit with honey on top as a sweet treat. Honey was the only sweet treat the Vikings knew. Vikings also drank ale and fresh water. Also they drank ale, mead and buttermilk daily. Feasts included the same foods – meat,fish,fowl,vegetables,wild greens,bread and fruit,but in a greater variety than usual meal and more of it. Vikings enjoyed drinking ale and mead in feasts. Mead is a strong, fermented drink made from honey.

Vikings houses were made of wood and and stone.

Viking clothes

Viking clothes were made from wool, lien and animal skins . The Vikings were skilful weavers and made their own clothes.

On Saturday Mrs. Sale and Mrs. Woods took 4 of our children to the BAFTA Cinema to see the screening of the first 4 episodes of the Night Zookeeper.  They had a special invitation from the Night Zookeeper himself.  Two of our children had designed characters which appeared in Episode 2 and Episode 3. The characters were the Guardian of Green which was a panda and the Guardian of Yellow which was a Monkey.  Lindsey Russell (Presenter on Blue Peter) was the host.  The actors of the show came on stage and the children in the audience could ask them questions.  Our children were asked up on the stage for some fun activities and one of our children was also interviewed regarding his character.  All in all, it was a brilliant day

Year 3 really enjoyed designing and making their roman mosaic tiles and

what a wonderful job they have done on them!

In Ash class/ year 3 we are learning about adverbs and verbs and adjectives and nouns. A noun is something you can touch. An adjective is a describing word that describes a noun. A verb is a doing word . An adverb describes a verb . We do this for SPAG sometimes. SPAG stands for spelling, punctuation and grammar. We work a lot in SPAG

In Year three we are doing fractions. Fractions are like this  – one half and one third also one quarter. Some people think it is difficult, I think it’s a bit tricky.

In year three  we are learning about volcanoes . We know the most about mount Vesuvius and we also know a lot about Pompeii .

This is how a volcano erupts. When two tectonic plates rub against each other, the pressure builds up pushing the magma up until it erupts and all the magma shoots out.  We learnt that when the volcano erupts and the magma comes out it is known as lava.

Year 3 have really enjoyed learning about volcanoes they have found out all sorts of amazing things by doing their own research. 

Year 3 are still working hard during their swimming lessons and lots of non-swimmers have started being able to swim! The more able swimmers are practising jumping in at the deep end and perfecting their breaststroke and front crawl. Please make sure your child has a full swimming kit, including a hat (which are available at the school office). A big thank you to all the parent helpers who come out in the cold with us every week to walk the children safely to Abbs Cross.

In year 3 we have been working on different poems. We have done shape poems that is a poem  that is in a shape. First we had to get ideas. Lets go for the shape of a star. Next think of adjectives similes verbs and adverbs. I will start off with a adjective, booming glitzing. When you’re done make your sentences, now put them in your star and you will have a poem. Or you can do any shape like a heart, circle or square.

In Ash class  we  have  been  writing  the  about the Stone Age, it’s in the olden days . We made lots of notes about  it.  There are so many things to find out about the  Stone Age.   The stone  age had normal painting  and cave paintings. They are very rare . If you see one you are lucky they are very old  I mean  very old.
