The ‘S’ sound

Today we learnt the ‘S’ sound and words that begin with the ‘S’ sound

Below you will be able to see one of our children modelling how to say the sound correctly and the phrase for writing the sound. Just in case you can’t hear her, she is saying “Slither down the snake”.

Ask your child if they can show you anything beginning with the ‘s’ sound at home and if they can write the ‘s’ sound.

The a sound

Last week we also learnt the ‘a’ sound.

Below you will be able to see one of our children modelling how to say the sound correctly and the phrase for writing the sound. Just in case you can’t hear him, he is saying “Around the apple and down the leaf”.

Ask your child if they can show you anything beginning with the ‘a’ sound at home and if they can write the ‘a’ sound.

Jumpers and cardigans

Please could you check that your child has their own cardigan or jumper. We are currently trying to locate two stray cardigans that have their owners names in them.

Please could you also make sure that your child’s clothes and belongings are clearly labelled as we are still having issues with unnamed jumpers and cardigans. Sometimes the names written in pen can also wash off. Please check that your child’s name is still visible and also readable.

Many thanks

Reading books and Reading Records.

After another busy week, today your child will be sent home with their very first reading book. In your child’s book bag you will find a zip wallet with a reading book and a Reading Record.

The reading book at the moment is just a picture book. We encourage children to start off with the picture books because it gets them used to handling books properly and they also can learn and understand that the pictures tell stories.

On the front page of the Reading Record it explains that it is expected that parents will read with their children at least 3 times a week and this will need to be recorded in the Reading Record. Bedtime stories can also count towards the 3 entries a week.

Please send your child’s reading book and reading Record in daily, as we will also be reading with the children in school.

Reading books will be changed every Fridayย  and the signatures will also be counted on a Friday.

Reminders

Please ensure that everyday your child brings in their labelled bookbag and labelled water bottle. Also just a reminder that it should only be water in the water bottles to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Also please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name. It is inevitable that some items do become misplaced, however they are always returned when they are clearly labelled. It can be very difficult to make sure belongings go back to their rightful owners if they are not named. We are encouraging the children to be as independent as possible and it is easier to do that if their items are labelled.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend!

What a fun week!!

This week we had the second half of the class join us, and what an exciting week we’ve had!

The children have been busy exploring the inside areas and the gardens. The art shed in the garden is proving to be a big hit. As well as exploring their environment, they have also been getting to know each other and making friends. We can see already that some firm friendships have been made ๐Ÿ™‚

Mrs Costan, Mrs Williams and I have also had a wonderful week getting to know all of the children. We have a feeling that this is going to be the best year yet!!

Here are some pictures of this week

Enjoy your weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Our first week in Reception

We had such a fun filled week, last week getting to know the children better and playing with them.

Here are some more pictures from our first full week in school. Now all we need are the rest of the children to join us so that we can continue to have fun and make more friends.IMG_0616 IMG_0620 IMG_0621 IMG_0622 IMG_0623 IMG_0625 IMG_0626 IMG_0627 IMG_0628 IMG_0629 IMG_0630 IMG_0631 IMG_0636 IMG_0637 IMG_0638 IMG_0640 IMG_0641 IMG_0646 IMG_0647

2. We are kind and helpful – We don’t hurt anyone’s feelings

3. We listen – We don’t interrupt

4. We are honest – We don’t cover up the truth

5. We work hard – We don’t waste our own or others’ time

6. We look after property – We don’t waste or damage things
