Art Week

During Art Week Year 2 showed their creative side. We explored different artists such as Monet, Rousseau and Munch and had a go at sketching landscapes. We practised still life drawing of animals and capturing different views of a still life display. Sticking with our topic of Places People Go, we collaged a jungle scene using bits and pieces of natural materials we found outside. We also created African masks and splatter painted the outline of  Africa.

Mrs O’Brien

We are photographers….

During their Computing Lessons Year 2 have been looking at photography. Studying a variety of photographs they discussed what made a good photo. Landscape, portrait, focus, zooming, lighting, background…there are many things to consider. They then went out into the playground and took a selection of photos which they then added to their own album on the iPads.

Next week they will be learning how to edit and enhance their photos before using them to make a presentation.
Look at Lia and Kaylie’s beautiful photos.

Mice World Secret Circus

Beech and Elder class both found tiny tickets to the Mice World Secret Circus in their classrooms on Tuesday morning. Despite the ticket saying “Don’t let the children see you” we decided to go and investigate. We found the circus near the outdoor classroom. Although we didn’t see any mice (we must have scared them off) we did find a big top circus tent with lots of circus acts inside.

Hope for Havering

“This Christmas Elm Park Primary School are supporting the Hope4Havering charity with a reverse advent calendar.  Students participated by bringing in an item, on a date they were given, which will benefit a homeless person.  In return, the student was allowed to open the door on the advent calendar for that date and receive a chocolate.

Donations have been non-perishable food tins, crisps, crackers, cakes, scarves, hats, gloves, blankets, toiletries etc

Miss Brown, whose idea it was, said how overwhelmed she was with the response and how everyone got in the spirit of it and contributed something.

Year 2 celebrate our GOOD news

On Friday we held a surprise assembly for Miss Morris to celebrate that OFSTED have graded our school as GOOD.

Each class or year group made a short video which was shown during the special assembly. These videos have been posted on the individual year group blogs for the whole school community to enjoy.
