Have a look at these fantastic superhero paintings we have created this week. The children painted them last week and used pens to add detail thinking carefully about the pop art style that we had looked at!

Superhero Day
Today we welcomed back year 2 with a fantastic day of fun filled superhero learning. The children came ready, some of them even dressed as their favourite superhero. We planned and wrote stories about our superhero characters, some of them were made up while others were the ones that the children already know about. The children used props to act out their stories taking photographs of each section on the ipads.
They planned for an opening, build up, dilemma, resolution and an ending in their superhero narratives. Then they worked with special visitors from the University of East London to create e-books using the book creator app!
Watch out for some of their e-books to appear on the blog over the next couple of days!
… and of course the children had some super silly facial expressions to go with their superhero costumes and superpowers!
Hope4Havering
Every class at EPPS has been taking part in raising donations for homeless people in Havering through the ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ scheme. Each child has bought in a donation on their given day and received a chocolate from the advent as a thank you. It has been wonderful to see lots of donations as well as children. Becoming more aware of those less fortunate than themselves.
Here is a picture of each class with their donations.
Police Visit
Today the children in year 2 had a very special visit from Sergeant Lee who told the children all about his job as a policeman. The children asked lots of good questions to find out about his job including his uniform, his equipment and the things he does. Then they all had a chance to sit in the police van and turn the sirens on! It was very noisy but a great afternoon.
Thank you Sergeant Lee for coming to visit us.

Florence Nightingale
Yesterday we had a very special visit from Florence Nightingale who was kind enough to tell us all about her life. We have been learning about the work that Florence did as part of our topic ‘Jobs People Do’. We looked at some of the things she had and we also got to pretend we were in the hospital, girls as nurses and boys as soldiers! It was a great experience!
Here are some photos from the visit…
Magic Potions
We had lot’s of fun in Maths yesterday after finding some rather unusual bottles in our classroom. We used things like Dragon’s Blood and Fish Slime to follow a recipe to create Invisibility and Fairy Dust Potions! The children had to measure out each amount carefully learning all about capacity as they did this. They also had to work collaboratively in teams and each child had an important role in their group!

Foggy Morning and Spaceship Landing
This morning was a strange one. As well as it being Halloween today the children came to school and noticed lots of fog around the playground. We know that the fog is bad and stops planes being able to fly safely so we had a game of catch the fog. Once we got it all we put it into the bin!
Then we heard a loud bang and noticed that something had landed on the roof. we went up to the balcony to investigate and found what looked like a broken spaceship. Some children thought the engine had stopped working while others believed the spaceship may have crashed into something because of the fog.
We were all quite certain that there must have been some aliens and we thought about where they might be now.
