Tesco Trip

Yesterday Beech and Elder were lucky enough to go to Tesco Roneo Corner for a special store tour. They were shown around by a lady named Lesley, who set challenges for children to find fruits and vegetables that would show all of the colours in the rainbow. The children also began to read the labels to find out where the produce had came from. We met Mo at the fish counter who told the children all about where fish come from and different types of fish that they sell. Then we went to the bakery where we tasted bread and pancakes, Elder were lucky enough to see the bread being made!

We went into the freezer which was very cold, then into the warehouse for their delivery and finally into the security room where we were able to see ourselves on the cameras. A final taster of cheese and grapes ended our fabulous trip. The children were extremely well behaved and a Community Support Police Officer commented on the children’s exceptional manners.

Many thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers, we wouldn’t have been able to run this trip without you!

Could it be Robin Hood?

Today we found a strange letter left in beech class. The letter used some very tricky vocabulary including words like outlaw, honourable, intentions, emplore and exile. We worked out what it meant and found out that somebody by the name RW needed help to protect himself. He talked about wanting to help poor people and being perceived as dangerous and dishonest. After we read the letter we noticed a mysterious tent set up near the school pond. There were blankets, clothes and even a bow and arrow. There was also lots more evidence that tells us somebody has been sleeping on the school field.

NSPCC Number Day

We have had a fabulous day in year 2 with lots of fun maths activities. We started with fractions of numbers and finding equivalent fractions before a ‘Who Wants to be a Mathematician’ challenge, Beech vs Elder. The children worked hard to answer maths questions and some needed to phone a friend for help. Eventually it was a draw with both classes winning £230!

In the afternoon we did some problem solving…

The Mystery of the Missing Toys

On Monday year 2 found lots of toys captured and tied up around the school. They were shocked that someone had been so evil at EPPS. We investigated the crime scenes and came to the conclusion that the wicked Professor Spade was to blame. We have now rescued the toys and they have all been returned to their homes. The children have been looking out for Professor Spade but he hasn’t been spotted since.IMG_3092 IMG_3093 IMG_3094 IMG_3095 IMG_3096 IMG_3097 IMG_3098 IMG_3099 IMG_3100 IMG_3101 IMG_3102 IMG_3103 IMG_3104 IMG_3105 IMG_3106 IMG_3107 IMG_3108 IMG_3109

Superhero Day

Today we welcomed back year 2 with a fantastic day of fun filled superhero learning. The children came ready, some of them even dressed as their favourite superhero. We planned and wrote stories about our superhero characters, some of them were made up while others were the ones that the children already know about. The children used props to act out their stories taking photographs of each section on the ipads.

They planned for an opening, build up, dilemma, resolution and an ending in their superhero narratives. Then they worked with special visitors from the University of East London to create e-books using the book creator app!

Watch out for some of their e-books to appear on the blog over the next couple of days!

Hope for Havering

“This Christmas Elm Park Primary School are supporting the Hope4Havering charity with a reverse advent calendar.  Students participated by bringing in an item, on a date they were given, which will benefit a homeless person.  In return, the student was allowed to open the door on the advent calendar for that date and receive a chocolate.

Donations have been non-perishable food tins, crisps, crackers, cakes, scarves, hats, gloves, blankets, toiletries etc

Miss Brown, whose idea it was, said how overwhelmed she was with the response and how everyone got in the spirit of it and contributed something.

Please see the following link for more information:

Hope4Havering

Every class at EPPS has been taking part in raising donations for homeless people in Havering through the ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ scheme. Each child has bought in a donation on their given day and received a chocolate from the advent as a thank you. It has been wonderful to see lots of donations as well as children. Becoming more aware of those less fortunate than themselves.

Here is a picture of each class with their donations.

Police Visit

Today the children in year 2 had a very special visit from Sergeant Lee who told the children all about his job as a policeman. The children asked lots of good questions to find out about his job including his uniform, his equipment and the things he does. Then they all had a chance to sit in the police van and turn the sirens on! It was very noisy but a great afternoon.

Thank  you Sergeant Lee for coming to visit us.
