Today we visited the library and had a great time finding out about how to become a member.

We found out that you can join the library at any age, you can borrow up to 20 books and keep them for 3 weeks.

To join the library you just need to take a letter with your grown ups address on, then you can go to any library in Havering (there are 10).

The librarian read us some stories and said we could have a look at all of the children’s books.

We are eager to take our parents during the February Half Term, so we can choose some books to take home.

This week in reception we have been reading the story “Where The Wild Things Are”.

We enjoyed painting our own Wild Thing and we made some using the iPad drawing app too.

Last week the children in reception read the story “Bog Baby”.

It’s a great story to help children understand how to care for the animals in their environment.  Please share it at home too:

We had a wonderful time making and writing about Bog Babies and then we went on a Bog Baby Hunt around the school.

We asked the teachers in Year 2 and 4 if they had seen a blue flying creature anywhere and we followed the clues across the school field to the pond.

There we found some blue footprints, glitter trail and some feathers, until finally we spotted Bog Baby.

Willow 1 and 2 classes had a great time visiting the FishMonger in Elm Park.

We saw a Conga Eel, Crab, prawns and lots of other fish.

We asked the fishmongers,  Jenny and James, lots of interesting questions and listened carefully.

We have had a busy week back at school learning all about cold places. The children have researched facts about penguins using the ipads and made a habitat for a penguin. We looked at the stories ‘Penguin and Pinecone’ and ‘Penguin small’. We have also looked at some real fish and did some observational drawings and made some clay models of them.

In maths this week we have been practicing adding and taking away objects as well as ordering numbers to 20. The children have been working hard to write adding and subtracting number sentences.

We would also like to introduce Rebecca, our final year student from Roehampton University. She will be working with Mrs Wren, teaching in Willow 1 throughout the Spring term.

This week we have been learning all about ‘The Stick Man’ ready for our trip to Weald Country Park next Thursday.  We are really looking forward to doing the StickMan Trail.

Today we had a brilliant time in the garden retelling the story “Whatever Next”.

We used cardboard boxes to zoom off to the Moon, where we had a picnic just like Baby Bear.

This week we have learnt about the celebrations of Diwali, The festival of light.

The children loved hearing this story  and they have created some wonderful drawings of the 10-headed baddy Ravana.

Within maths this week we have been focusing on height and length, comparing sizes and measuring in non-standard forms as well as continuing to learn the numerals.
