A Wiggly Nativity

This week, Years 1 and 2 performed ‘A wiggly Nativity’ for the school and parents. The children did a fantastic job, sang beautifully and we were all really proud of them.

Here are some photos taken after the show.

Polar Express Day

To celebrate the end of their topic ‘Polar Adventures’ the children in Year 2 came to school wearing their most festive pyjamas for the day to recreate a magical journey on The Polar Express!  As part of the day they made and drank hot chocolate. They all enjoyed it very much.

Super Scientists!

Year 2 have been investigating materials this week. Linked to our learning about the Polar regions we thought about what properties an effective winter coat should have. We then came up with our own methods to test which material would be the most waterproof or the warmest and set up the investigations ourselves selecting appropriate tools. Based on our results we designed our own winter coats suitable for a Polar explorer.
Well done Year 2!

Perfect Poetry

This week in Year 2 we have been learning about poetry. We read ‘The Night Before Christmas’ by Clement Clarke Moore and it made us very excited for Christmas Eve! We then learned to recite the first stanza of the peom, adding actions to our performances. Next, we are going to write our own festive Christmas Eve rhyming poems.
Here are some of our fabulous poems. Click on them to enlarge the image

Poppies

This week the whole school have been decorating their own poppies. Most of the time we paint the poppies red because it is the classic colour of poppies and on Flanders Field when they started to grow it looked like a flood of the blood from the soldiers who died in battle. This year we got to paint purple poppies because they are for all of the animals that were killed in the wars like dogs, horses and pigeons. We also got to use a variety of techniques of how to decorate it like using a cotton bud and paint or felt tips. This year is a very special year because it is 100 years since World War 1 ended.

Superhero vehicles

Children in Year 2 have been working incredibly hard at home building superhero vehicles for their homework! We have really enjoyed hearing all about how they were made and the special features they have. Here are some photographs of our fantastic homework – well done Year 2!

Yesterday , children from Y1 -Y6 took part in the Rocksteady Music workshop. We sang and clapped along to our favourite songs. Then some lucky children , got the chance to play a electric guitar  , drums , keyboard or go on vocals.
The children learnt about the different instruments and how to play them. They behaved beautifully ,showed great confidence and teamwork.

Sports Day

Towards the end of the week, we had both KS1 and KS2 Sports Day. The weather was great and the children were ready to go! Each child wore either red, yellow, green or blue and represented their colour/house in their races. KS2 Sports Day took place first with a 9:30 start, it saw the children take part in sprints, long jump, long distance, throwing and a relay.
During lunch time there was a picnic on the field where parents, children and teachers ate lunch and enjoyed a BBQ put on by The Friends of Elm Park Primary.
The KS1 Sports Day started shortly after lunch. Children took part in 6 events egg and spoon race, sprint, obstacle relay, corridor relay, ball throw and the sack race.
We would like to thank all parents and careers for attending and The Friends of Elm Park Primary for supporting. A final thank you to Evie Bragger for her fantastic photography.
