Swimming Fun

Year 3 are still working hard during their swimming lessons and lots of non-swimmers have started being able to swim! The more able swimmers are practising jumping in at the deep end and perfecting their breaststroke and front crawl. Please make sure your child has a full swimming kit, including a hat (which are available at the school office). A big thank you to all the parent helpers who come out in the cold with us every week to walk the children safely to Abbs Cross.

Numbers Day

We had a wonderful day Friday celebrating number day. We saw lot’s of creative costumes most of which were homemade so thank you for all your effort. It was also lovely to see so many parents joining in with problem solving activities with their children. Most importantly we have yet again raised some money for the NSPCC whilst having fun!

This week in year 3 by Aakshaiya and Betsie

In year 3 we have been working on different poems. We have done shape poems that is a poem  that is in a shape. First we had to get ideas. Lets go for the shape of a star. Next think of adjectives similes verbs and adverbs. I will start off with a adjective, booming glitzing. When you’re done make your sentences, now put them in your star and you will have a poem. Or you can do any shape like a heart, circle or square.

In Ash class  we  have  been  writing  the  about the Stone Age, it’s in the olden days . We made lots of notes about  it.  There are so many things to find out about the  Stone Age.   The stone  age had normal painting  and cave paintings. They are very rare . If you see one you are lucky they are very old  I mean  very old.

Having fun with the new Ukuleles

Today in Aspen Class the pupils had fun learning how to play our new Ukeleles.

First the children listened to a song called ‘Hey you, what you gonna do?’. Next, they created their own version of the song and accompanied it with their Ukeleles. They then performed it to their friends in class.

They all had so much fun and sounded fabulous.

This week in year 3 by Aakshaiya and Betsie

In maths we are doing fractions. We learnt that if you have a pizza and you want half of it you cut the pizza into two pieces and just take one piece. If you want a third of a pizza you cut the pizza into three pieces and take one piece.

Our challenges were mild = easy, spicy = middle, hot = difficult and super hot is very difficult.

In year 3  we are learning about  the water  and reading the Water Horse. In the story so far they think they have a mermaid  purse and inside it is a lockless monster. The water has a water cycle that goes round and round in order. We read all water books to get more information.

Column Method

In year 3  we are doing  column method in Maths.  Here are the steps. One,  put the bigger number  up  and the small number  on  the bottom and  remember to put an add sign or take away  sign next to the  sum . Next step put a line under the sum and write  the answer  under the line .  Step 3  put  tens units  and hundreds and maybe  thousands  and do  the units first to get the right answer.  If you are doing adding you can put the numbers any way round you want but  if you are doing  take away you can not do it  as you will get the wrong answer.

In year three our maths is about column  addition.  If I am talking about subtraction let’s say the numbers 12 and 5. You have hundreds tens units you put 12 on tens and units because the 1 has to go on the ten and the 2 has to go on units.  The answer is 17.

By Aakshaiya

Ash Class

In year 3 we are learning about column addition. The first thing we have to remember is to make sure that the numbers are all in line and that you have an add or take away sign. We have to add the units first and then add the tens column. If you have a hundred number and a tens number you have to put the hundreds number in to the hundreds column and and put the tens number in to the tens column.
