Poppies

This week the whole school have been decorating their own poppies. Most of the time we paint the poppies red because it is the classic colour of poppies and on Flanders Field when they started to grow it looked like a flood of the blood from the soldiers who died in battle. This year we got to paint purple poppies because they are for all of the animals that were killed in the wars like dogs, horses and pigeons. We also got to use a variety of techniques of how to decorate it like using a cotton bud and paint or felt tips. This year is a very special year because it is 100 years since World War 1 ended.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

In Ash class  we are writing a story about Charlie and the chocolate factory . I think everyone knows Charlie and the Chocolate factory because its famous by Roald Dahl.  Just  remember that you need to watch both movies because there is a new one and an old one.

We are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in class.  My favourite part of the book is where they all go in  the chocolate room and eat every thing in that room.

The golden ticket winners

In Ash class we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Charlie Bucket, Verucca Salt, Mike TV, Violet Beauregard and Augustus Gloop were golden ticket winners which meant that they could go to the Chocolate Factory owned by Willie Wonka and see what it is like to make chocolate.

Charlie was very poor and was very excited when he got his golden ticket. He decided to take Grandpa Joe with him to the factory. When they got to the factory Willie Wonka put on a performance it went well . then they went in the factory . The first room they went in was the chocolate room . In the chocolate room Augustus  gloop was the last person to go in the group because he was scooping up the chocolate river.

Welcome to Year 3

We have had a busy few weeks in Year 3 following instructions to make chocolate, designing our own chocolate bars and creating adverts using ICT to persuade Cadbury’s to make our chocolate bars!

We are very proud of the children, they have made a brilliant start to Year 3, all striving to be the best they can be.

Visit to Chalkwell Beach

On Wednesday, Year Two went on a trip to Chalkwell beach. We had lots of fun building sandcastles, digging huge holes and playing ball games. After our picnic lunch on the beach, we were lucky enough to spot and catch a jellyfish. This jellyfish is a Moon jellyfish. We really wanted to bring him back to school but released him back into the sea when it was time to leave.

Magic Box poems

This week Year 2 have been reading the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright. We performed the poem adding actions and sound effects with musical instruments and later wrote our own Magic Box poems which turned out beautifully!

Here is Ivy’s fantastic poem…

Sports Day

Towards the end of the week, we had both KS1 and KS2 Sports Day. The weather was great and the children were ready to go! Each child wore either red, yellow, green or blue and represented their colour/house in their races. KS2 Sports Day took place first with a 9:30 start, it saw the children take part in sprints, long jump, long distance, throwing and a relay.

During lunch time there was a picnic on the field where parents, children and teachers ate lunch and enjoyed a BBQ put on by The Friends of Elm Park Primary.

The KS1 Sports Day started shortly after lunch. Children took part in 6 events egg and spoon race, sprint, obstacle relay, corridor relay, ball throw and the sack race.

We would like to thank all parents and careers for attending and The Friends of Elm Park Primary for supporting. A final thank you to Evie Bragger for her fantastic photography.

Visit to Newham City Farm

This week Year 2 had a wonderful visit to Newham City Farm. We got to meet many different animals and learned lots about them. The children were beautifully behaved and has lots of interesting questions to ask our tour guides. Back in school we have been writing TripAdvisor reviews of the farm because we think that everybody should visit! Well done Year 2
